The blues bass line is an important part of a song. It describes the harmonic form and sets melodic impulses. In this masterclass, bassist Carmelo Leotta explains the most important functions of the bass line, its structure and common harmonic forms such as “five four” or “long five”. Harmonica players can benefit greatly from knowing this, since a strong bass line can serve as guidance when improvising.
